The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, through a press release disseminated, upon learning the results of the elections in Taiwan on Sunday, expressed «full support» for the People’s Republic of China, led by the Communist Party. The candidate Lai Ching-te, considered by the Chinese government as a «dangerous separatist,» became the elected president of Taiwan.
«The Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of the Republic of Nicaragua and the Nicaraguan families, want to express our full support for the People’s Republic of China, the Communist Party of China, its government, and the people of that great country, on the occasion of the election results presented yesterday on the island of Taiwan, which is definitively an integral and inseparable part of the People’s Republic of China,» reads part of the Ortega regime’s statement.
The newly elected president of Taiwan, who secured victory this Saturday with over 40 percent of the votes, promised to defend the island from Beijing’s intimidations. This comes in response to China’s threats and attempts at coercion, urging the Taiwanese to make «the right decision» to avoid war.
Lai maintains that he is open to dialogue with Chinese President Xi Jinping, but only on equal terms. He has called on Beijing to reconsider its pressure tactics but asserts that he «harbors no illusions» about its intentions, as reported by The Washington Post.
The Ortega regime supports China’s intimidations following the elections in Taiwan
The Ortega dictatorship, in addition to reaffirming its support for China, stated it «shared» the declaration extended by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of China. The regime copied verbatim in its letter part of the intimidations from the Chinese government, emphasizing its «identification and recognition of the ‘One China’ policy.»
Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, asserted in the statement quoted by the Ortega regime that «the results of the two elections in the Taiwan region (…) do not represent the majority public opinion on the island,» emphasizing that «Taiwan is part of China.»
Another threat was issued last week by the Chinese military, vowing to «crush» any attempt at «independence» by Taiwan, a nation that has been effectively separated from the mainland since 1949 when Mao Zedong’s communist forces defeated the nationalist troops. The latter retreated to the island and established an autocracy, which later transitioned into democracy in the 1990s.
In the intimidating statement, China emphasized that its «will is as firm as a rock» and pledged adherence to the One China principle. They stated, «We will resolutely oppose separatist acts of ‘Taiwan independence’ and interference by external forces, and we will work with relevant political parties, organizations, and individuals from all walks of life in Taiwan.»
Ortega once again turns his back on Taiwan, which was one of his major donors
«The Ortega regime’s support for the ‘One China’ policy, in compliance with the Chinese government, has reached its second anniversary since turning its back on Taiwan in December 2021. For over 14 years, Taiwan was one of its major donors.
Now labeled by the Ortega-Murillo dictatorship as a «province» of China, Taiwan had previously provided the Ortega regime with substantial financial contributions, particularly supporting various sectors such as agriculture, commerce, health, and education.
