On Thursday November 30th, the National University of Engineering (UNI) announced the removal of the psychometric test for incoming students in Engineering programs and the aptitude exam for Architecture.
Through a post on its Facebook page, UNI stated that the classification for both programs ‘will be determined by the grade point average required in the pre-registration process.
With this decision, the university would be eliminating the requirement of an admission exam to secure a spot in any of its programs.
In the pre-registration enrollment process, no admission exam is required for entry into any of the offered careers.
The decision comes after UNI announced that starting in 2024, pre-registration, registration, and monthly fees will be free of charge.
In 2020, the National Council of Universities (CNU) announced the suspension of admission exams in the country’s public universities. ‘We have been implementing an entrance exam, which has been a mechanism for placement and classification. But now, we have evaluated that we can do things differently, and in the CNU, we have agreed not to conduct it, not to have an entrance exam,’ said the president of the CNU, Ramona Rodríguez, at that time.
